This was my first time experiencing a live online class. Overall I couldn’t ask for a better instructor and community.

Week 1

The first topic was about the fundamentals. The main point from this week I took away from was to start a more structured approach to practicing line quality and warming up before drawing every day.

I am still getting used to drawing straight lines and hope it will get better with time. Personally I find just drawing lines and circles very meditative because there are no problems to solve and I just have to get the work done.

Week 2

This week has been a lot of fun in regards to construction different forms and shapes in 3D space from imagination.

The hardest part and something I did not know beforehand was intersecting shapes with each other. I struggled a lot especially deciding the correct way to intersect while keeping the perspective of the shape aligned.

Week 3

Rendering shapes during week 3 was definitely a large time sink.

The main point that will stick for me is that for studies like this it is quicker to just render a small area and continue on with other sketches.

Something I wished we would have discussed some more is how to gather reference material from different sources in a structured manner.

Week 4

This week I was starting to lag behind a lot and was starting to loose steam.

Drawing the same thing mutliple times can be very exhausting for me. What helped for me is to reduce the size of side views and thumbnail some more.

Week 5

Drawing animals is something I have almost no experience in, so this was a good way to start getting more into the subject.

Week 6

The current week was very hard for me. Drawing trains with all the details and also aligning the ellipses when drawing in perspective took a lot of time and effort.

Week 7

Finishing up the dynamic sketching course with one of my favourite subjects. I had a lot of fun drawing and gathering reference materials from a botanical garden.

Overall the course has pushed me in a lot of different directions trying out drawing new subject matters as well as organizing the drawing process.
