Course Notes

Mostly focused on deepening the knowledge from the first course, this one was all about trying out different techniques and applying them to various subject matters. This page contains some of my thoughts and notes taken during this dynamic sketching course.

Week 1

In comparison to the first dynamic sketching course, which was my first live drawing course earlier this year, I had a much clearer process, which made drawing even complicated motives like animals much easier. As it became more comfortable to draw them, the hurdle of tackling those motives also became smaller. Master studies is something I intend on practicing much more often going into the future.

Week 2

It was much harder to keep momentum going after the first week. What I needed was to have a structured process going forward that I also feel comfortable sticking to. What I ended up doing was using kanban boards. Having a structure as well as joining up to events really kept up the motivation in regards to sticking to the course each week.

Week 3

Keep things simple to primary forms and then adjust with 3D operations. Watercolor studies are very quick when applying color and take a lot of time in-between. The hair dryer is your friend.

Week 4

Just overall a fun week. Drawing all the various birds in action poses was a very interesting exercise.

Week 5

How to keep going even while having a very busy schedule? That is one of the questions I am going through right now alongside other more general questions regarding my art journey after having started full time work after college.

Week 6

I really enjoyed drawing architecture of different buildings in Greece. I used some postcards from the 70s for collecting the reference, which immediately has a much different relation than just a pin on a pinterest board. Especially if the contain some interesting text on the back.

Week 7

This week I was trying to get a feel for my limits in how much I can draw during a normal workweek using one of my favourite subjects.

Week 8

Finding a good middle ground between preparing for each week’s assignment like gathering up reference and scheduling was very important during the course. For me kanban worked out great, but I wil definitely decrease the amount of cards for each assignment for future courses and pool them into one for each week.
